    Default Java Server, Flash Client

I've been asked to develop a web based server app in Java capable of communicating with a Flash based client.

I have become confused when researching the maze of possibilities for the communication layer and would like to ask what you guys feel the simplest soution is for allowing Actionscript and Java to communicate via the web?

    Many thanks.

XML (i.e. SOAP and the like).

Thanks for the speedy reply. SOAP was the first thing that came to mind but my client seems reluctant to use it. I don't think Actionscript has any support for SOAP. Am I wrong?

What is an alternative to SOAP that is easy to get up and running in both Java and Actionscript?

It can definately do URL connections and XML, so, essentially, is has SOAP support, or at least support for the XML behind it. Your flash client will make a URL connection to your "server" and the "server" will return XML.
