I myself also a beginner in Java.
IDE that I choose is : Netbans 6.7, very useful for beginner, we can create everything faster and has code corrector.

    very recommended one :)

That site has lots of downloads for Java related software, tutorials, API specs and a huge Java forum.

PS :For learning Java I would recommend no IDE at all.

java.sun.com is the Sun Microsystem official website. It included all the resources related with Java. But our community is just a forum only, we didn't provides any download or related. Idea is discuss Java related question in different aspect, from beginner to advance Java programmer and so on.

I agreed with you lol. My recommendation is the Notepad and the Command Prompt. Notepad++ also a nice text editor, it has a nice syntax highlighting.

Agree, but I think the benefits of this fade at a pretty steep rate. I.E. The benefits of doing this for the first 4 weeks are far greater than the benefits of doing this for the next 4 weeks and so on.

Its like the Wheel of Time series. Each book tells half of the remaining story.

while i don't like full-fledged ide's for beginners, i think that something like notepad++ is a big help by color-coding keywords and indicating matching parentheses/brackets/etc. as far as actually organizing packages, classpaths and all those goodies, it's primary knowledge that ide's strip from the learning experience.
