I am trying to put java 6 update 14 back into my windows xp.It starts the install then stops at unzipping core files failed.Ive went to self help but what it says and whats on my computer are two different things.I can not get any version of java to load on my computer.So as of now i have no java working i need help.
hmmm... try disabling all firewall and anti-virus softwares first before installing.
Is there any error log in event viewer related to Java installation?
I also have the problem. Perhaps its a new one. Did a update come out recently?
The error 25099 did refer me to a self-help page and I followed all the directions successfully - basically trying to find a previous version and uninstall it - and nothing was found. I just reformatted with XP so I didn't expect to find one but hey maybe one stuck in with another download.
After reading your suggestions I disabled my virus - Avira - and the Windows Firewall. No luck so I turned off Windows Defender with the same result.
I'm going to try a earlier version but if I don't come back and amend this then that was not successful either.
No luck - the only thing I haven't tried is to allow the new Toolbar to be downloaded.

Step 2 is a bit weird, how can jqs still be running after java has been uninstalled? Sounds like bad programming...Quote:

This error indicates that the Java installation process has failed. Installation process can fail if process named 'Java Quick Starter ' (jqs.exe) is running and has not terminated after uninstallation
WORKAROUND
Step 1 :Uninstall older versions of the Java Software.
Step 2 : Stop or terminate the jqs.exe process.
Step 3 : Download and install Java.
Anyways, I suggest downloading and installing the jdk/jre offline. But before that, uninstall jdk/jre, reboot, and then kill all java processes such as: jqs.exe and jusched.exe

Did some further digging, as a last resort, you can also try del the java folder if it's still there after an uninstall.
I'm going to try that stuff angryboy as best I can but I'm just a simple guy.
To make it clear this problem came up after a re-installation of XP. After the bare installation of XP I used a hard drive cleaner on any unused portion of the drive.
Then SP3 and in the course of normal downloading things I need Java came along and this problem came up.
Does that change anything?
I find the file "jqs.exe" in a search so its there.
Where do I enter this taskkill command? I tried it uner the Run window and it said it can't find the file.
i guess for some reason you don't have the taskkill command...

use the "Performance Tab" find jqs.exe and click the "end process" button.

You are using an admin's account right?
You probably meant the Processes Tab but jqs.exe was not running.
I'm the only user of XP since it was re-installed so I presume I'm the administrator although I have not specifically told the program that its me.
I found the jqs.exe file in a search so its there.

what folder is the jqs.exe file located in? Can you delete it?
maybe you can try installing to c:\ instead of c:\program files.
I have no idea why you have jqs.exe since its a newly formatted system.
Its possible that it came back with my back-up files.
I found it in a search and it just says Name: jqs In Folder "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin and 150 KB Application.
I don't know how to delete it from Search or how to find it via another method.

You don't need this folder, so just delete it. Open up window-explorer. Go to c:\program files\ find "Java" and click on that big red X to delete it.Quote:

I created a folder called "New folder" and when given the opportunity to change the destination folder I browsed for it and picked it to receive the download.
There is no red X and if I do a usual right click then delete I get "Access Denied".
There is a folder "Jave" with many subfolders and when I tried to just delete the whole thing I got the same response.
Then I noticed a subfolder of "Java" called "Lavaware" which was an old program I no longer use. I successfully deleted it via right click. Then I also was able to delete the whole "Java" folder.
I then downloaded Java again and it completed the process. I confirmed Javas health by opening a program which refused to open because I didn't have Java.
Problem solved thanks so much for sticking with me.
The troubleshoot guide from Java apparently was correct but it was written by programmers for programmers and left me behind. IMHO.
Sorry man, that's as much as I can help you over the net without breaking your system. You may have to find someone to sit you through this step by step. This may be because you are not using an administrator's account. Or you may have some left over processes running that you need to hunt down and kill. The variables are just too numerous.

the guide isn't that hard to understand if you know the steps to finding processes and killing it. DOn't worry, it'll come to you when you play around w/ comps.
thank you very much, was having the same problem and couldnt fix for like 3 days, found this post, followed the deleting and bam fixed in 10 min. was funny though jqs.exe wasnt on task manager, i uninstalled all of java. but when i searched it it was in same program file/java folder. i even did the stop command, wasnt there. and downloaded the cleanup tool and still nothing...lol had to go looking around myself. again thanks alot for the help
