If the game obtained various resources at runtime (from a database or a server) then those resources will have to exist for your copy of the game to run. Something like a database may simply not be available from WayBack. Your best bet really is to find the author (who, after all probably has copyright on the game!) and get some documentation on how the server end has to be set up.
(Failing that, saying what the error actually is would be a good idea.)
It's not clear from your post whether you have any actual interest in the Java language. I don't mean to suggest that you ought to have - that's entirely your own business - but if you do, then downloading someone else's game and attempting to make it wrok is probably not an effective way of making a start.
