Hi,
I was wondering how was deprecation handled prior to the introduction of annotations in java 5 ?
For e.g. while working with java 1.4, I could see a number of methods in the Date class deprecated (striked out methods). How was this handled in java 1.4 as there was no annotations ?

Any inputs would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
