Default Just how do I get Java to actually work?
Hi everyone

I just joined this forum as I am having really bad problems with Java. I don't know if this is the correct place to post this but it says it's for newbs to Java, so I stuck it here? I have downloaded and installed the latest JRE so many times now, that it's starting to get very boring. However, no matter how may times I download it and install it, it never works! I get the Java Console in the Tools menu, Java is in program files in control panel but it is never showing in tools>internet option>advanced! I have the MicrosoftVM showing there and I have checked the Java Console Enabled bit but whenever I click on the Java Console in Tools, nothing happens. I think this could be the reason why websites are loading quite slowly as for some unknown reason, Java is just not working and I know it isn't working as some of the better broadband speed test sites I use, have to have Java enabled and they are always telling me that Java is not even installed, when I I know damned well it is! This has happened a few times before and I just did a reformat and reinstall and it worked for a short while and then failed yet again. But I am getting a bit pissed with keep doing that now, so here's hoping that someone might be able to assist me as this is starting to really hack me off now. Thanks in advance for any helps and apologies for the rather long post. Cheers!

I don't know what you are talking about, can you be more specific?

Do you want to write Java programs?

Or just have your browser execute Java programs from some website.

These are two totally different issues. There are many other possible areas, so you need to ask with more detail of what you want

Seems to be someone wanting to run applets in the browser, not an actual developer.

No, most definately not a developer. I am not that clever I'm afraid. I just want it to work in the browser as the other person quite rightly mentioned, thats all. Sorry if I didn't make myself clear enough but fortunately, I am not a 'teckie' or a 'geek' so I wouldn't know anything about the technicalities of developing anything with Java? It's just that I know a lot of websites rely on Java for them to actually work in a browser and on my laptop this is not happening at all. Therefore, it's slowing up opening websites etc, that require Java. I just wanted some advice as to how to rectify the problem I am having, that was all? Java is installed on my machine but most definately not working or even showing that it is actually there, other than in I can see it in program files but even the Java Console is not visible in Tools>Internet Options now. Sorry for sounding so stupid. I will look elswhere for advice. Thank you.

Which browser? Which operating system?
How you do it depends on the answers to these two questions.
