Weird problem: Terms and Conditions keep showing up, can't use Java at all

I recently updated some of my Java software. I typed in "java -version" and got the Terms and Conditions, to which I agreed -- everything seemed fine.

Then I typed in "java -version" again, and the terms appeared again. Hmmph. Same thing happens when I try to execute a java program I wrote.

I restarted, and the problem didn't go away. I then tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Java 6 packages, and still no luck.

Wth?

I'm not sure what you are talking about. java -version gives the JDK version you have installed in your machine. There is no contain any terms and conditions. Did you try this on command prompt?

The terms that show up are definitely for JRE. Btw, the compiler and everything work just fine (I'm using GCJ). JRE seems to be the only issue, except for when I ask for the version. (I'm quite confused.)

Is that a Linux version of Sun's JDK? Can you get rid of it and use Sun's JDK?

GCJ is the Java compiler for Linux. It's required for a lot of Linux IDE's, so I can't get rid of it. I'm pretty sure the problem is with the JRE only -- some config file must be out of whack or something.

I'm confused here too now. You said that you can compile and run a Java application here. So when you stuck on JRE? What you have to do with that?

I can compile a program. JRE is required to *run* it, so therefore when I try to execute the program, the TOS message shows up.

Ok, is there any options on TOS to continue the process? I've never seen this before.

Yeah, I can agree to the terms, and then it acts like it's doing some stuff, and then it prints "Done." Kind of implying that I'm not going to see that message again. But every time I do anything involving Java (aside from compiling), it happens again.

Once you uninstall, check that any related documents/logs etc are available on your PC. If so delete them all. Then scan your PC using virus scanner. Because this is unusual behavior, may be an effect of a virus. Then install latest JDK version again and test it.
