    Effective Java by Joshua Bloch

This book will teach you what you need to know in order to program effectively with Java. Hence the title ;)

JAVA IN TWO SEMESTERS by Quentine Charatan & Aron Kans, 2nd edition, 2006, McGrawHill Education, ISBN: 0077108892 or 978-0-07-710889-2

This book will teach you both basic and advanced JAVA programming. I did C++ before starting Java and this book helped me a lot.

    Good luck!
