Default They Just Disagree (Machines not communicating)

I'm not able to get a connection to a remote machine. I can ping the target machine from all three Windows machines I'm using to test my client sockets app. I've tested my app sending to 127.0.0.1 Port 7, and it works fine (I can send and receive).

On one machine (W2K) the msg I get when I try to send a message over a socket is:

    java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out: connect

On the other two machines (XP) I get:

java.net NoRouteHostException: No route to host: connect

It would seem we were having a firewall problem; but now the machines will connect, but messages are not passed - it just sits there with a dumb look on its face.
