Default multiple clients single server via sockets

i am new to Java, hence slow at it. So kindly oblige. i am trying to connect multiple clients to a single server and send data to it at regular intervals from all the clients. The clients get connected as and when required(randomly at different times). so how do we make the client access the socket created at server ? the server should remember the client.

Thank you for your suggestions. i am using netbeans ide 6.9.1. To get the port details, i am using javax.comm package, but it says package not found. i'v already added the following to the required folders: comm( executable jar file), javax.comm (properties file) , and win32com.dll (application extension ). What could be the possible error??
