    Default Netbeans for begginers?

Hello, I'm starting to study programming. I would like to know why should I use Netbeans as IDE.
Is it a good option to start programming?

This is all a matter of personal opinion. My personal opinion is that beginners should use a basic text editor to write code and the command line to compile and run their code. IDEs hide a bunch of stuff that will just end up confusing you, so you should keep it as simple as possible until you know what's going on.

I agree with what Kevin said. I have done most of my programming using Eclipse as my IDE. It is a great time saver but the downside is, it does a lot for you (like flagging syntax errors, maintaining class paths and packages, and a whole lot more). So you get dependent on it. As such I am very rusty when it comes to getting my source locations and class files correctly located if I want to just do CLI compilations. So I also suggest you use not use an IDE (yet). In fact, I may start doing that myself. My favorite text editor is vi (and now vim which is vi on steroids). It can make editing easy once you get some basic commands down. And it is exceptionally well documented with build in help files that open up in a second window so you can edit as you read about the command.

I am currently a beginner and using Netbeans right now. I find it a bit easier to be able to view the code, design and everything else with it. But others are right maybe starting out with a simple text editor and using command might help.

Not this discussion again. I'm not even going to make the effort to respond to something so often discussed and thus easy to search and find: I'm sticking with "do what is comfortable to you".

Yeah, this question is as old as the "which came first, the chicken or the egg?" question. Which comes first, an IDE or understanding?

At least this isn't the "which is better, netbeans or eclipse?" which is as old as "which is better, red or blue?"

PS- Of course the egg came first! (and green is better than either red or blue)
