how to test a stemmer in netbeans?

I'd like to test a stemmer (Porter) on some text to see how it works. Don't know how to approach it. I use Netbeans. I copy-pasted the open-source stemmer into a new created (main) class in a new project. But how can I test this on some text?

It would be a good idea to ask a specific question. At the moment all we know is that you want to test someone else's code. We don't know what the code is, or what you would like to test.

I downloaded the Java implementation of the Porter stemmer from open source tartarus.org. Now I'd like to stem some strings to see how the stemmer works. I'd like to run the stemmer against a text or a few strings and cannot figure out how. Thx.
