adding external jar in Net Beans project

Hi Mates

I have a JBuilder project which i have imported in net Beans 6.9.1 ..Now i want to add an external jar file which has some classes in it i will like to use .I am trying to go to project properties and add the new jar file in the library .but when i try to use any of the jars classes i cant do it.Net Beans cant find it. and it gives the error.
I am able to compile and run the project in Net beans without this jar.

what is the best way to add the external jar file in the netbeans project.
am using Net beans first time.

have added the jar in the project properties libraries compile .
below is the error .line 58 is where it cant get the jar resource.

What you have on Start.java at line 58?

yep the package does not have errors.It is not able to access any of the packages (jars) calsses or methods.
can u tell me step wise what i need to do for netbeans to access the jar.or do i need to place the jar is some particular folder in the project .or is there any other way.
i am thinking now to break the jar and use indivisual classes to acess them .is there any other way.

The way you added the jar file is correct. You can confirm the configuration in this way. On your project folder there is a folder name dist. Open it, there should be a folder name libs. Check that inside that folder, you should find your external package.

I have imported this project from JBuilder platform.will have to redo or see where the Dist folder is.

I created a new project in the NetBeans and copied all the files from the other project .
Now i can see the jar file in the dist/lib .
But i am still not able to use the classes and methods inside the jar.do i need to put the import statement at top .
i have a jbcl layout jar from JbUilder which is also added as library and uses import statement and it can access the jar resources .but i dont know if i have to use the external jar what will be the import stateemnt.
my jbcl jar uses import com.borland.jbcl.Layout;
Need your help here.

Once you compile the project only you can see the dist folder. If you've use any external packages only you can see lib folder inside the dist folder.

No need to use any import statements. Since the package in lib folder you've done it correctly. You cannot user resources from the package sense what's really happen. Any error message? NetBeans notify lots of such situations.

Could you send me the project if you can? So I can have a look at it.

If you have added those packages in classpath, then only you have to add import statements. Otherwise NetBeans will take care of it. But keep in mind that, if you added them in classpath only you can use it in any other project in NetBeans. If you added to a project in NetBeans you cannot use it in other projects.

These are the steps i have done to put the jar in classpath in NetBeans
I havent done anything else to add the jar anywhere else.

Add the package only to your project and try.

yes i think will have to add the package instead of the jar.
But i think it is the build.xml file which is the problem.
I cant see the classpth for jar file in build.xml file .
But i know nothing of Ant and am using netbeans first time.
If you can send me a sample file of build.xml which has path to external jar that will be great.
