1. Don't double post.
2. Rep is for usually getting an answer correct or solving a problem
3. I suggest eclipse since its a portable IDE and has more features while netbeans has some boundaries. Netbeans is picky, java only, buggy and sketchy with javascript.
4. Use Tomcat v6. (Eclipse won't allow you to set up version 6, but install it and select version 5) ~ Sno ~

Netbeans is no more buggy than Eclipse.
It's as portable as Eclipse (well, there's windows and linux versions, and I expect a Mac one?).
It's not Java only (my version has PHP and C/C++ editors on it for example).
I have no idea which version you last used...

If you're referring to the Matisse drag-and-drop Swing GUI builder, then please understand that Eclipse has plugins for this (though I've never used any).
No idea what you mean here. Can you clarify please?but eclipse is used in real time.
And this too -- please clarify. Myself, I find Eclipse easier to use than NetBeans, but this is simply my lowly personal observation and not a general rule that has been verified by testing that I've done.its better you learn the hard way...use eclipse.

I've used both...and currently InetlliJ IDEA.
To be honest, I find little difference between Netbeans and Eclipse (and I wouldn't use a GUI generator anyway, so can't say about that).
IntelliJ might be better, but I've only used it for a couple of months, so I'm still in the "finding how to do things I could do in the others" stage.
