    Default Searching for Job/Career Ideas

    Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to help out my brother to find a computer related career path and am having a hard trouble coming up with ideas. He plays video games all day RPG/MMOPRG and knows a lot about the features and can give a great critique on how the game compares to others and get really in depth and technical as well as hardware needed and available on the market to support these games. I use to be in the same position and went to school not knowing what I wanted to do and started the basic AA transfer degree until I took an Intro to Programming class, then I knew I wanted to be a software engineer which I will be someday unless I find something better. I'm trying to help him find a certificate/degree he can complete that would get him a decent job at 40K+ but at 2 years max education. I was thinking Web Developer, Unix/Windows Systems Analyst, Database Engineer, IT support, and hopefully something with beginner programming knowledge in multiple areas but not required. He is not very strong with math so not sure about advanced programming but I could help tutor in my free time, he has about college algebra level math skills and not too great at writing but has his HS diploma. I was reading up on video game testers and it seems they are contracted and don't get well compensated, e.g. no benefits and not full time for very long only contracted. I have a job as a Data Analyst/Consultant in Seattle, WA which pays very well and have a BS in Computer Science from UW so I am very strong with programming skills/math/business/communications skills. I just need some ideas to get him going because he has been looking but has not stumbled upon something he wants to take serious and is not trying to get the 4 yr degree I did. Let me know if there are any career opportunity suggestions and what qualifications you think may be needed as well as education requirements. I just want to throw some ideas his way so he can make a decision if he wants to put in the effort. Thanks in advance.

What can I say - IT requires a large amount of personal time invested before you can get anywhere at decent salaries. 2 years of education is not going to cut it.

i agree with you that it will need time to have a best career in life and expect that in the first move you will fail but still take it as a challenge.
