The Netty project is an effort to provide an asynchronous, event-driven network application framework for rapid development of high-performance, high-scalability protocol servers and clients. It includes related out-of-the-box protocol extensions and a tool suite.

Changes

The overall API became more user-friendly. The PipelineCoverage annotation type has been introduced to describe a PipeHandler better. SSL Handler has been implemented to support SSLv2, SSLv3, and TLSv1. A Java object serialization codec has been added. Various bugs also have been fixed.
