Default How do I create a client - server application??

Does anyone have any ideas how do I create a client-server app? I have created a java program (a GUI ) for a hangman game. Now I have to put it on a server so clients from other PC's can access that application. What should I use? Tomcat? Java web start? Xampp?

If it's a desktop app then use Web Start.
If it's an Applet then embed it in an HTML page.

I don't really understand the question, to be honest.

Normally, you would run a servlet in a web server, like Tomcat.

It would be accessed by an url using http

e.g this reply page has this as an url..

    e.g http ://www.java-forums.org/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=252398

You can see the data values being passed at the end

The web server knows how to pass these values to a compiled Servlet object.

That's the basics. You need to do some reading.

You don't need a servlet if it's a desktop app (ie Swing).
If the OP just wants to distribute it (ie make it available on multiple machines) and, since it's currently a desktop app, then just set it up with Web Start.

I'd google up the how-to link, but the OP can probably achieve that just as easily.

Either that or turn it into an Applet, but that would be more work.

Hey !...I've created a jar file from the desktop application and embedded that jar file on a simple html page with java web start...and it works perfectly fine on my pc on localhost... But now how can I access it from another PC? Do I have to put some extra-code in the html? or is there a way I can just connect from the other PC to that html?
