    Sample entry for filter in web.xml

    <filter>
    <filter-name>FilterExample</filter-name>
    <filter-class>FilterExample</filter-class>
    </filter>
    <filter-mapping>
    <filter-name>FilterExample</filter-name>
    <url-pattern>/JSP/response.jsp</url-pattern>
    </filter-mapping>

    Make java file and implement interface "Filter" of servlet API.
    Override doFilter() method and write your login there.

    You can user filters to check access for certain URLs.
    Some URLs can be accessed by some users only.

    Hope this will help.

    Let me know if you have more question on it :)
