Likely you need a proper signed certificate (not self-signed). You'd do well to research the new Applet sandbox restrictions that Oracle put into effect in recent versions.

We have a signed certificate from Go Daddy that doesn't until the end of June. The problem has only occurred since installing java runtime 1.7.0_55, clients didn't have this issue in 1.7.0_51

I believe if you read my first post correctly you will find that I did

SurfMan, possibly, although I cannot edit each clients local java.policy file so I need to find a way to override or work around the java.security.AccessControlException: access denied ("java.awt.AWTPermission" "accessEventQueue") message in the java code base?
