Default Can't open jar files (doubleclick/command prompt)

    Hello everyone:)

I am not a programmer, so plz excuse me for posting in a programming forum.
I am having some trouble with java, so I hoped you guys could help me fix it.

So the problem is that I can't open jar files on my PC (windows 7 x64).
Doubleclicking them won't show anything, though my Task Manager tells me that 'javaw.exe' will start running in the background.
Running a jar through a command prompt gives me an error (see attachment).
Also, the folder of the jar files I'm trying to run will later also freeze and crash my explorer.

The exact same files do run on my brother's PC (also windows 7 x64), so there's nothing wrong with the files themself.

I have already uninstalled/reinstalled java a few times, ran a fix for the .jar file association, googled around for help, but nothing seems to work, so I have come to the point where I am asking for help.

Does anyone know how I can fix this?

You say 'applicationS', so you tried this with multiple different java applications then? Or is it just the one?

And which version of Java are you installing? When you run 'java -version', what does it output?

Side note: the fact that it works on one machine and not on another can still mean there is a problem with the application itself. At this point and judging by that error, I have to assume the application itself is doing something wrong.

My java version is the latest:

    java version "1.7.0_51"
    java<TM> SE Runtime Environment <build 1.7.0_51-b13>
    Java Hotspot<TM> Client VM <build 24.51-b03, mixed mode, sharing>

I think I have found the problem.

It has something to do with a custom windows 7 theme I installed earlier. As I just remembered, I had that same jar file working before I installed that theme.
After switching back to the Windows 7 Basic theme (without uninstalling the custom theme), the jar runs fine.
Running it again in the custom theme brings back the problem.

I tried to run different variations of the same jar file, which all didn't work. Although I just downloaded a totally different jar file, and that seems to run fine on the custom theme.
As the jar that I was talking about before is an application thats been used a lot, I just assumed in the first place that the problem was my machine.

I know the easiest thing to say now is "just don't use the custom theme" or "ask the guy who made the theme", but I would still like to see this fixed.
If not, can you at least explain to me where stuff goes wrong? I mean, you do understand the code that the command line gives me, right?

Oh, and thanks a lot for responding, I really appreciate it :)

Nope, can't. Its not code, its an error that comes from within 'Java itself' (I don't want to get too technical). It might be that there is an issue between Java 7 and Windows 7 in combination with the outdated technology that is used to build the user interface for this application, who knows. That is indeed something that the original developer would have to figure out.
