very void here, game ideas needed

hello everybody

this Java Gaming Forum is such void that i decided to write a first post. well, a few weeks ago i bought a book for programming 3d-games in java but i didn't started reading. i still have no visions of what kind of games i could write, but if perhaps you have already any ideas it would be great if you could write something about it in this forum.

Hey, I've never made a graphical game in java, but it sounds like a fun idea. You said you didn't know what kind of game to make? I'm not sure if you meant 2d or 3d games, but a game where things are coming at you and you have to dodge them would be fun. Kind of like the slalom one for the i-phone (this would require 3d). Or like the asteroid one where you have to dodge them. Any game would be fun to make though.

I have been working on a 2D isometric hobby game project for the last 2 years, it's great fun!

If i was to do a game in 3D i would probably use an existing engine like: jMonkey. It would save you a lot of time.

As far as ideas... it all depends on your ambition, available time, and how original you want to be. :)

Casino Game: cards, slots, roulette or all of them
Racing Game: 2d or 3d racing game
Tank game: blow up other tanks
Space Game: blow up other spaceships
Retro Game: redo some old Nintendo game or game you loved from the past that no longer exists.

Once you have the idea in mind it's just a matter of making your tools do what you have envisioned.

If you have not read the book yet, my suggestion is read it first with all the examples. You can find lots of simple examples on the web as well.

actually some time back(3-4 weeks back). To kill my boredum i made a game called Space Invaders in java it worked pretty, its a pretty basic game just had a little trouble with it.

Then, with that motivation i made a game of poker. It was fun. I would suggest working on them. Just need a good idea of java api and loops and probably threads.

I read an article some time back about java gaming. This cleared my doubts on what to program games in java.
