Is a career in Java worth pursuing?
Hi, I've begun studying the basics of Java to hopefully begin a course for the Oracle Java Web Developer certification and was just wondering if this is a career path worth pursuing.
I'm from the UK (London) and have no programming experience whatsoever but I am gradually grasping the basic concepts of Java (Object Oriented Programming, Interfaces etc.) and plan to purchase some beginner's books eventually and spend a great deal of time learning this in my free time before going for the course. I feel that if I continue in the way I've been going so far then I may be ready to take the official examination in about 8-10 months time.
However, I'm unsure about what sort of career prospects await someone with the Oracle certification and no professional experience in programming to speak of - particularly in the UK. I would be very grateful for any advice here related to my situation. Is it worth pursuing this career for me? Are there realistic possibilities for me to make it in this field if I stick with it and do my best (particularly given my lack of programming experience)? Any suggestions also?
