    Default Applet execution timing variation

I am using applet in my web application.
But every time, It is taking different time in execution.
Also time varying from one server to another.
But as per my understanding,in case of applet, jar is downloaded at client machine so this variance of timings is not dependent on one server to another.

In my case, I am not interacting with server in between execution.

Please help me in finding the root cause .
What factors could affect performance of applet.

    correct.

Anything. Its not like the applet has full access to the entirety of the machine resources.

But first define what "different time in execution" actually is. Startup time? How long something takes to complete - if so, what is that something exactly?

    Thanks for your reply

Actually time it taking in init phase, where I am creating swing controls like JLabel,JButton depending on a file with some information regarding which control needs to be created.Issue is that file or no of controls is same every time but it taking sometimes 4 seconds another time it is taking 6 seconds .

My question is why this difference in timings is coming.

2 seconds of difference. The only thing that is wrong here are your expectations. This is perfectly normal and probably relating to things being cached or not.

Start worrying when you start to see half a minute of difference, anything below that falls in the category "applets suck".

But here two seconds is not a big difference
but this difference is coming in init phase only
Combining all the operations including Applet loading time+init+start phase made a difference to end user in any application.

So we could not minimize applet loading time,so want to reduce this time

Are there any resources you draw from the server, other than the jar file, during the creation of the applet?
    For example, any images?

Other than that you could look at exactly what you are doing in the init phase. Do the bare minimum to get the system up and displaying. If there's calculations to do, do them in the background if possible. Just get something on the screen.
Please do not ask for code as refusal often offends.
