    Default Class not found exception

    I have a simple applet "TestPlugin.jar". Running on Windows XP command line using Java -jar TestPlugin.jar, it behaves as planned to display "Hello from plugin". I try to load the following applet using Firefox 23.0.1 with Java build 1.7.0_25-b17:
    XML Code:
            <applet code="TestPlugin.class"
                archive="TestPlugin.jar"
                width="400" height="50">
            </applet>
    I used to get a display of the applet rectangle with "Error-click here for details"; clicking gives "ClassNotFoundException". Then I opened up some security options in the Java Control Panel. Now I just get a wait widget and the following on the Java Console:

    Java Code:
    network: Connecting http://192.168.1.70/TestPlugin.jar with proxy=DIRECT
    network: Connecting http://192.168.1.70:80/ with proxy=DIRECT

    Any ideas?

    Thanks, Wes

    Default Re: Class not found exception

    I will stand corrected on this but 1.7.0_25-b17 is now deemed insecure and you should be offered the update to 1.7.0_40-b18. This may (or may not) be the cause of this error. Also ensure that your applet's manifest file contains the following attributes :

    Permissions:
    Application-Name:
    Codebase:
    Class-Path:

    With the applicable values set.
