I am taking a java class and my current project is to write a chat system using applet embedded in HTML. I have no clue. Any suggestion will be appreciated.

I did google it...but I am totally new to programming and this project is way over my head. I was hoping to get some help as to the order of writing things. I thought there might be a template or something. Thanks for the reply. I keep everyone updated if I find something.
