Need help with Drawing Sound Wave

I have homework assignment,
I do not want solution from you
I just want idea, how to start the code

I am given txt file or sound file with list of arrays/ number lots of them
and I have to write code to draw the wave of it.
in java applet
please help me where and how to start

First break down the project into several small steps, then try to solve each step one at a time and sometimes each step in isolation of the other steps. Why not try to do the breakdown first and then post what you feel these steps should be, and which ones you feel you are most stuck, on. Otherwise given the very general nature of your question, the best I can do is refer you to the Java 2D tutorials.
