[I Want To Kill Java]

I have had this problem for a year or so and I have spent so long trying to fix it I feel like I am going to fucking cry.

I have the latest java and JDK. I can not run any .jar files. I can play stuff that uses java through my browser but cannot run a program off my hard drive. I am using vista.

Let me explain it in a simple form:

1. Father downloaded new java I think and maybe something else like windows update.
2. When I try to run my .jar files it says it doesnt know what to open it with.
3. Ages trying to fix it.
4. .jar files open a black command prompt box with text for a split second then it closes instantly.
5. uninstalled all my java staff again.
6. Reinstalled the newest Java and JDK.
7. See step 4.

OMFG!

I was trying to fix not being able to open java apps I downloaded when I found in my registry edit I couldn't make a key called ".jar" or ".jarfile" cos there was allready a key named .jar under a random itunes parent folder. I couldnt delete it, rename it, export it, change the permissions or anything because I didn't have permission. When I deleted its parent folder it survived.

Is this the root of my problem? Have I been registry hacked? how can I fix this? Or is it normal and unrelated?!

It's really difficult say at once. But you can check two things.

1. Check that the file extension .jar is registered in your PC.

or else,

2. Try to run your app through the console

Does your computer pass the minimum requirements of the game? If yes then update your video card driver and directX.

Could be. Better to check with them.
