Are you using an IDE such as NetBeans or Eclipse? If so, they both have an incorporated debugger, and if you check out their help files and they will tell you how to use it.

Are you using an IDE, like Eclipse or Netbeans...if not then I recommend it in order to debug the code.
Otherwise you'll really be left with Sysout, which isn't as flexible.
