tried to set the file association for a .jar file to javaw.exe but the application won't start.
Try testing your command line used in the association by opening a command prompt, moving to a folder with an executable jar file and entering the command line, replacing the %1 place holder with the name of the jar file. Use the java command instead of the javaw also. Copy and paste here the results.

To copy the contents of the command prompt window:
Click on Icon in upper left corner
    Select Edit
Select 'Select All' - The selection will show
    Click in upper left again
    Select Edit and click 'Copy'

    Paste here.

Can you explain how did you do the association here. And also did you get any error message when you double-click on JAR file?
I managed to fix the problem:

Went to Tools -> Folder Options and searched for the .jar extension. Clicked Advanced and edited the open action, browsed to C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\javaw.exe

In the Application used to perform action field I put "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\javaw.exe" -jar "%1" %*

Now the program starts as it should do.

I have precisely the same problem that demichelis89 had. I just installed a java version6 update22.
I tried to open my .jar file using the steps that were described earlier.

    Follow the steps below.

    1. Create a folder name temp in your C: drive.

    2. Copy your JAR file to that folder now.

    3. Open the command prompt, most probably you can see that on command prompt, you can see something like this.

    Quote:
    Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
    (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

    C:\Documents and Settings\Eranga Thennakoon>
    4. Type the command cd c:\temp and press enter

    5. Type the command path=C:\Archivos de programa\Java\jre6\bin

    6. Finally type the command java -jar tracker.jar

What are the options you've tried?
