so do you want me to change the location where my tracker.jar currently is? (which is this C:\Documents and Settings\HOME\Mis documentos\Descargas\tracker.ja) to this location: C:\Archivos de programa\Java\jre6\bin

Done, I just copied it and pasted it.

    Follow the steps below.

    1. Create a folder name temp in your C: drive.

    2. Copy your JAR file to that folder now.

    3. Open the command prompt, most probably you can see that on command prompt, you can see something like this.

    Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
    (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

    C:\Documents and Settings\Eranga Thennakoon>
    4. Type the command cd c:\temp and press enter

    5. Type the command path=C:\Archivos de programa\Java\jre6\bin

    6. Finally type the command java -jar tracker.jar

You are welcome. Actually the next point should be try to generalize the stuff, to work on in any condition(folder locations, etc...) Anyway, have a nap and think about it later.

Yeah it's around 11 in Sri Lanka now. :)

a nap? It's not (now) 01:13pm but 01:13AM in the morning!!!!!! hehe, I'm gonna have a "huge sleep" haha :)

Do I have to do the same thing every time I wanna open a .jar file? There's no other way to open it with just a doubleclick, right?

    Wow...
Is that a Java Forum?

Fresh your mind, pal... Anyway, keep thinking what Eranga said to you. As I can remember classpath is the basic java thing :D

    Good luck

People are stuck with most simple things in many cases, not only in programming with Java. Important things is the gut feeling you can get after resolving it, next time it should not happen. Then only you can deal with more advance stuff.

:) And OP is so excited. But if he didn't ask this same question again, then that's my reputation. Nothing else.

Of couuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurse won't ask the same question again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! c'mon!!!!!!!!! haha..
but 1 thing gafa, in my case, doesn't matter how basic a classpath could be because I don't program with java :)
I just came across with a file that was a .jar one, and had trouble when opening it :)
It's so early in the morning again, good morning (sounds weird but you know of our time zone difference). Thank you again.

Of course. I'm sure most of the people already done these kind of stuff. Honestly I've done these kind of things when I've start to learn Java a long time ago. When I'm doing this in Win 98 I don't know how to set the classpath, after several attempt only.

Thanks for the explaination Eranga. It helped me aswell.

But could you also help me/us with opening the .jar file in windows? I've tried to set the file association for a .jar file to javaw.exe but the application won't start.

The commandline you provided works fawelessly. Any idea why I can't start the app from Windows?
