JRE Renders gibberish
I recently installed JRE 6. I can navigate to pages with Java applet content and get a load but the entire field displays nonsense. Consider the rit speedtest site at Code:
http://web100.rit.edu:7123/
. I have attached what I see. This happens on all pages with applet content. When I open the control panel, It is also see gibberish.
Have tried: uninstall - reinstall (from second download binary) several times, Complete virus scan (Avira), throttle-down of hardware acceleration, and reducing screen resolution.
Of note, this machine is a three boot system. Linux, Windows XP64, Windows XP32. The Opsys with the problem is XP32.
I have searched Google and this forum without success. I have seen occasional references to possible, similar behavior - all of them unanswered.
Sorry if I picked the wrong forum. If I did, where should I go (in addition to the devil).

What JRE version did you install?
Not that I expect the answer to leap out at me from that...just wondering if it's a 32/64 bit thing going on.
ETA: Then again, I wouldn't expect it to simply stick blocky-wierdness on the screen.

Tried both
I installed the 64 bit version on my (working XP 64) installation. I upgraded my XP 32 installation with the 32 bit JRE6 release. I also have an earlier version of the 32 bit release of the 32 bit JRE 6 that I tried after uninstalling the failed upgrade. Then, just for laughs, I tried installing the 64 bit version on XP32. As expected, this install barks; "wrong OPSYS, before it even starts-up.
I have two other computers here with XP 32 / JRE 6 working fine.
In the garbled nonsense, I recognize part of a Scribus document I worked on months ago????

Still in a jam
I completely removed JRE 6 and deleted all related registry keys and folders in Program Files and Local settings - both for jre6 and all previous releases.
Rebooted
re-downloaded
reinstalled
rebooted
Avira scan is completely clean including rootkits. No hidden registry values.
XP32 on AMD 64 system. Java applets work in parallel operating systems installed on separate system volumes.
My registry is essentially silent (regmon) except Avira local protection access.
Minimal process tree - exclusively Microsoft.
Still have this problem. Has no one ever heard of (or experienced) this weird problem?

Never encountered this, though I have to say I rarely use Applets, so possibly not the best sample. And this is happening on all Applets via that OS on that machine?
Is this on IE? Have you tried a different browser?
-
Browsers
Yup, both IE8 and Opera 10.6.

Just a guess. Try reducing the graphics hardware acceleration.
