    Default socket connection in an applet

    i have a chat-client applet written in java that connect to a sever. when i start the applet in eclipse the connection is established and all things are ok. but when i start this applet in firefox, the functionality in the applet is there but the connection to the server cannot be established. any ideas what's going wrong?

    Maybe it is owing to the applet location. Are you starting it right from your HD?

    yes, and the html is in the same directory where the class is.

    Did you try to run it with outer Tomcat or something like that to use host and port for starting?
    Is your applet signed?
    Show its exception list here pls.

    thanks for the hint "signed". after signing the applet with a tstkey i could start it, great ...

    yeah maybe you can run it but is there a real necessary the applet being signed? Code limitation? :)
    Or maybe you should simply organize its correct location. ;) Think it
