Book suggestions
I prefer learning from books because I tend to get less distracted. I was wondering if someone could recommend me some books that have a lot of insights on Applets, Swings, Events, GUIs, Dialog Boxes, etc. at a beginner level.
Any help is appreciated. :)

Why don't you use Suns' tutorial. It's explain everything in detail than most of the books available, with nicely constructed examples.
Ans also, Java Swing (Paperback) O'Reilly publication is also fine.

Because for some reason, I prefer learning from a book, or a laptop maybe? I only have access to a desktop at the moment so yea, book it is lol.
But yea, I'm thinking of getting "Thinking in Java" and what you suggested, "Java Swing"

If you prefer to work on the PC, e-books are mush better. Actually those are much easier to use. I love it. :)
