Is that how you examine programming skill?
Thanks for your input jimm1. However, I don't believe you've examined the Sun Certification processes listed on their site, in which case I suggest you do.
The Sun certifications are internationally recognized much like Microsoft and CompTIA, to name a few. For the SCJP, as mentioned on their site, yes you do test your
fundamental knowledge on the language by answering questions. Certifications are not a substitute for a well-rounded education, they are merely a supplement to help you stand out amongst the field of applicants. A certification says that you care about your chosen field so much that you went out and proved it. These are not easy exams, and this is only one level. Once someone has proven their skill in the fundamentals, they can move on to
SCJD which does require a heavy programming component, not just algorithms, but a real live working application to showcase your programming and design ability. Look at the graphic at that link - the SCJD is again on one more level and realize where I said that SCJP is foundational.
Hope this clears it up. If not, really review their certification processes.
