Brand Spankin New !
Hello everyone ! I am a caregiver for my wife and have a lot of time on my hands. It isn't always achievable to go fishing, so I decided to try my hand at programming. I have never (really) done programming before but am already starting on my notebook of things to learn and ask. The reason I decided to start programming in Java was because I thought it was a language that has a strong future. I would really like to build an application and thought that Java could help me accomplish this goal.
Just wanted to welcome myself to the board, that way when you all start getting bugged with stupid questions, you will remember.

Before you start asking those stupid questions ;-) read at least some of the Java tutorials/; they're a good read (especially the first ones) to help you to get started. Oh, and welcome to the forum.
kind regards,

Re: Brand Spankin New !
I read through a bunch of it, until I got COMPLETELY confused. I went back and have been going over the beginning with learning about classes, objects, etc. trying to teach it to my wife along the way to see if that helps it stick a little better. Who knows. Some of it is starting to sink in. For instance, I made a Bicycle example as they use, though mine was a car. I tried to get the grasp Copied but by the end of the page, I felt better. Just started like I said, so not trying to expect overnight magic. They did a GREAT job on writing the tutorials. Have them and the reference (barebones guide) to Java both bookmarked as I understand the importance. Right now I am going over implementing an interface.

Here's another web page you might like to bookmark: Java Platform Standard Edition 7 Documentation
The "Java SE API" link to the right of that page will be an essential reference once you get past the basics.
