So take a start to learn.
Find a book related to core java. Search our forum sections, you can find lots of comments related to how to select a book. But it's mainly depends on you.
And my suggestion is refer the Suns' official tutorial. You can find the link on my forum signature.
Without a strong understanding about the core concepts it's not an easy task to become a senior person. So work hard. Good luck.

What you mean you cannot access any team of software programming? Did you take on in a job interview?

Then you can have look around in your area for new opportunities. And while you can try-out stuff and improve your skills.

Whatever you can found related with Java, just try it out. Practice make perfect.
