Hello!

I thought I would post a little introduction, so that I would feel less bad about shamelessly asking question after question without giving something back to the community :p Hopefully in a few months (hopefully months) I'll have picked up enough Java knowledge to be of help to a Java newbie..

A little about myself: My real name is Alex, and I'm starting a computer science course next year (Sep. 2010). I though it would be good idea to get a little head-start, so over the past few days I've been taking my first steps in java. So far I've watched the first 8-9 lectures from the 'Standford Open Course-ware' series dealing with beginning with Java and programming in general (if anyone is interested in the link just say so). I've also tried playing around in Eclipse and writing a few short programs, but that has mainly been a frustrating experience :p

I've tried programming a little in python and also in C++, but I haven't progressed much further than putting together little 'hacks' and following basic tutorials. I'd really like to learn about good programming style and how to solve problems efficiently, and I'm sure that I could learn some of that from you lot! ;)

My first question: Is there a chatroom or something similar where some of you meet, where I could ask questions that could probably be answered with one line? In that way I wouldn't have to create a whole thread for a easily answered question ;)

Welcome to Java and to the forum. As for your question: I'm not sure if a chat room exists, I'm guessing "maybe", but I've not seen this.

Okay, thanks for the info. I guess Google will be very helpful in answering the 'one-line-answer' questions, and I will turn to you guys for anything more complicated that I can't find :)
