I am new, can anyone help me in Computer Vision?

Hi,

I am a student doing project on computer vision. My major is intelligent system. The problem i am facing now is, I dont know how to get image from the real world to the system. Is there any library for computer vision. Any method to capture the image with my web cam?

I know some Java but not so good. :(
