Getting started with IntelliJ IDEA
I had some problems getting going in Eclipse so I've been recommended IntelliJ IDEA. I'm trying to figure out how to set it up to read the JRE library.

Were your JRE's not figured out automatically? I've got the latest 11 build and it figured it out for me.. Although I believe there's a preference panel setting to override which one if you want -- at least from my poor memory..
