    Default Unrelated topic... please help

A folder on my usb flash drive is corrupt or something now

    Unrelated topic... please help-capture.png

when i try to open one of the folders it says the filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is inccorect... There wasn't really anything important in any of the folder but the problem is i can't delete them... I click delete, it asks if I'm sure i click yes and nothing happens and there's no error or w/e but the files are still there. How do i get rid of the files? D:

    thanks :)

On the next file error: smash it with a hammer and buy a new one. A new USD drive is about 10 euro for 128 GB, so messing about for 15 minutes with it is more expensive than buying a new one.

Java devs will just advise you to smash it with a hammer, so you better find a proper non-programming tech site to ask these kind of questions.

I remember the DOS errors I got: (A)bort, (R)etry, (I)nfluence with hammer. When I had disks (5" or 3") giving me that error when I copied something off it, I used to cut/snap em in half. Nothing sucks more than faulty disks. (Especially the last, 30th disk of a spanned archive). I now do the same with USB drives. One read error and it's a goner...

So you guys can feel my pain, when I tried to copy a linux distribution on 3 1/2" disks at university to install it at home .... if i remember correctly it was slackware and about 100 disks .... and a few didn't work :(

Just wondering how I survived that old time with just a 14.4 modem .... Not sure that I could survive without my high speed network :)

(And at that time, our university area was connected with 2MBit/s ... how this changed .. now even normal Households have much more. Slowest DSL line starts with 4MBit/s if I am correct ... (only a few areas do not have higher speeds, but where I live, we get up to 150MBit/s through the televison cable network ....)

    Konrad

Edit: removed some typing mistakes ... sorry but just using my 7" tablet ...

Ouch, trying to move an entire Linux distribution on floppies. You were braver than I was :)

No the worst pain I had was installing Gentoo, manually compiling everything on an AthlonXP 1800+. Lets just say that compiling KDE took around 8 hours to complete. Luckily you can just abort the compile and restart it at a later date and everything already compiled will not be compiled again so you don't have to let your computer running (it was next to my bed); it took me 3 days to fully compile everything I wanted and to set it up - it was working beautifully.

And then the harddrive said "KGHGHGHGHGHGGGGGG" and never worked again. Needless to say, it was another 6 months until I attempted to install Linux again.

Real men (like me) use their soldering iron and fix those slight inconveniences with those USB drives. Nothing a red hot soldering iron can't solve ...

    kind regards,
