    Default Translation

    Greetings,

I need a bit of help from a native French and/or German speaker; I have a list that contains less than 100 phrases/words, all in English; I need the French and/or German translations. I did the Dutch translations myself but I seriously suck at German and French; The list is the core of a localization mechanism for an embedded application, i.e. the English key phrase is the input and the German/French translation is the output. If some non-ASCII characters are needed, I can handle those myself (just put a note in the translation and I take care of the rest).

I tried to do the German translation myself but was laughed in the face by my German friend, but he refused to do the translation for me (the old bastard); my brother in law said he could do the French translation but even the Google translator made a mess out of it when I translated it back to English ...

I can post the entire list here (English --> Dutch); every line contains a tuple <english key>:<translation>; any takers? There is no money involved, all you get is my eternal gratitude or possibly a Grolsch beer if you happen to hop by.

    kind regards,

    Jos

You could either post it here or send it to konrad at kneitzel dot de. I will have a look at it and if you are lucky, you will get back a german translation.

But be aware that the translation might even depend on the context so it could be usefull to have something like <english word or phrase>:<description, where and how is it used>
Without something like that you might get something that will not fit 100%. An example could be "castle" which could be translated to multiple words where each one is something complete different. And sometimes there are no direct translations ...

So all I can promise is: I will take a look. If it is possible to give you a solution without discussions and to much effort, then you might get a translation to german.

Thanks for the offer; much appreciated. I'll send you the english:dutch tuples through email, maybe the Dutch translation give you a bit of context; if stuff still isn't clear, drop me an email. Thanks again.

    kind regards,

    Jos

ps. I just noticed that German has quite a few vowels with a double dot (umlaut) on top of them; don't bother to produce a UTF-8 file; just stick them in as [a], [e], [o] etc. or something similar; I'll do the UTF-8 stuff.

    kind regards,

    Jos
