Java and the iPhone
Do you guys think Apple will allow sun to make a jvm for the iPhone. Sun's vp said they were going to try to, and had already looked at the iPhones sdk and was pretty sure they could make one. The question is will Apple allow it. My thought is no because Apple being the control hungery corporation they are will not allow it.

Softies flounder in fluff.
In the upper strata, we have a dearth of techies. EG: Head Moe at HP falling because could not read the headers on email and messed all over the Front Page because of hiring a PI firm to uh,.... well read the History on it.

I am sure, totally sure, IPhone and EyePhone and any other StratoCorp will announce that they are "Hiring XYZ" just to show that they are so big ( the implication being subordination of XYZ Corp ) as to not need to be bothered with streetwork. The street-savy will be vying for postition when the loose-change falls from the pocktes of the fallen. Most of those fallen could not write fifty-line "Hello, World" minimal basic code libraries.

The JVM for an Aye! PhoneHome may not be a tight codebase, but we can be sure that un-adorned coders will work in remote areas, areas that will never be seen on mass media. The actual code warriors likely will never meet those who will fall in political challenges.

Hasn't it been killed by Apple's license terms? Their SDK requires that software be friendly to Apples revenue streams. Hosting a lot of 3rd party Java code would seem not in the spirit of making Steve Jobs richer.

I'd expect that a lighter language such as Lua would be a better fit, or more able to sneak the first part of the camel's nose into the tent.

There already is a jvm for jailbroken phones so I might do that or I might have to roll up my sleves and learn objective c and either pay 100 or just jailbreak my phone. LOL

Objective-C and Cocoa is not a bad development environment, maybe even a nice one. But it locks you into the Apple religion....

Yeah I know thats why I hate apple where would we be today if apple was microsoft how about one company that has a complete monopoly over hardware software and the operating system business. I think I'm just going to jailbreak it and put the jvm on it.

Clearly you don't plan to sell your software, as no consumer would consider jailbreaking it.

I meant that the cool people will insist on getting the 3G and I expect a lot of them to go up on eBay. Either directly, or from AT&T to unload their "upgrade" phones.
