Default Forum best practice question: what to do in case of spam infection?

Say that a person is unfortunate enough to create a post just before a flipping spammer decides to spam-bomb the forum, so you get a question which is immediately followed by a spam post without anyone ever having had the chance to respond. What is the best course of action to take?

    - ignore the spam post and just continue posting as usual? (but be sure not to reply to the spam post itself)
    - wait until someone cleans up the spam post first

I guess that's asking about Y and the real X question is: is it a major disadvantage to moderators to have to cleanup stuff that has had followup replies?

    Nope.
It's no problem if there's posts after a spam post.

Another pet peeve of mine. It seems it would be relatively easy and extremely beneficial to moderators to add CAPTCHA technology to the sign up form for this forum.

AFAIK Not the moderators, but the site owners. And who is that? Nobody seems to know anymore apparently.
