I would investigate the job market and see what is requested more based on what I want to do in my life; then I would learn that one first.

I'd choose the one which is more suitable for the task at hand. I.e C++ for hardware reated stuff and Java for networking, webservices, serverside stuff, etc.
Your question is a bit like: would you choose a hammer or a screw driver? It depends what you want to achieve.

With a hammer you can achieve most things. But maybe not with the exact results you want to see.

allaudin, with nearly 200 posts I would expect you to be familiar with the Forum Rules, particularly the third paragraph.

I would also expect you to know that this is not a question to be asked in New to Java.

Which job market and where? Which industry? There's no way to tell without context. Check local recruiter's and company's web sites to see what they are looking for.

It is silly that you have to pick one language; for certain tasks C++ is better suited for the job, for others it may be Java. I use both, partly because I have to and partly because I like both languages; you're the one to decide ...

    kind regards,

I can't really believe you, sorry. If you wanted to make a decision for yourself, you would be asking for actual information and not "what should I do". Stuff like:

    - what will give me a more secure future?
    - what is the learning curve tied to platform "X"?
    - in what kind of development projects may I end up if I learn "X"?
    - What are your experiences so far with doing "X" development? Do you find interesting jobs, can you support yourself financially, etc.?
    - What should I study to properly learn "X" and be ready to fight for a junior position or an internship?
    - Will it be useful to get a proper degree when I learn "X"?
    - Besides programming, what more is involved when I go into "X" development? What will typical requirements asked of a person that is an "X" engineer be?

You know, questions that people can actually answer and will actually tell you something so you can MAKE a decision for yourself.
