Default Is it international spam day?

Jeez, I know there's loads of spam posted here, but today is extreme. Do they need a new target as the OTN will be taken down later today?

I still don't understand why the powers that be don't make it harder to join this forum. Prompting for distorted characters as verification, requiring final verification via email, etc. Perhaps even monitoring say the first 10 posts to ensure the users are legitimate before they can post freely. Nothing is 100% but it might ease the load. I assume all this would need to be integrated into the forum software. Of course, the idea is to ease the burden on moderators, not make it worse.

    Regards,
    Jim

I couldn't agree more; even a simple captcha would keep most (all?) of those spam bots out, while it's a little effort for a human to complete his/her registration; this weekend was really terrible ...

    kind regards,

    Jos

I guess the random knowledge question that you get is just a small subset that can easily be programmed into spam bots?
