Unhappy Help with sound problem (NOT JAVA RELATED/OFF-TOPIC)

As the title says, this has nothing to do with Java or anything about programming, I just need help.

I recently updated my computer to Win7 from Windows XP; didn't have any problems at first, since I have a laptop with that Windows version for years.

I do know a lot about Win7 and its issues(and the issues when doing such an upgrade), but this time I'm.. well, completely stuck. The problem is easily explainable : no sound.

Now, I'll make a list of the things, I remember I did, when trying to solve that issue, so if someone tries to help, s/he doesn't suggest the same :

    1) Installing the latest drivers

    2) RE-Installing the latest drivers(four times)

    3) Running the "Play Sound" Troubleshooter

    4) Made sure the speakers DO work

    5) Tried using headphones

The MAIN problem's that Windows is SURE that there isn't ANY problem.. therefore, well, I need to do everything like discovering and fixing the issue all on myself.

You haven't included what type of computer it is. I'd recommend you start by googling something like "type_of_computer windows 7 no sound".

I will say that I had an issue once where my brand new computer wouldn't play sound. Turns out it automatically muted the speakers when I unplugged them while rearranging the cords, and didn't unmute them when I plugged them back in. You might also check if different applications play sound, as there can be application-specific volume settings.

Well, first, I don't know what you mean by "type of computer"; that's certainly too general, please specify what details you need.

Also, I think it is clear, that it's something way worse than forgetting to unmute the speakers and that the computer can't play any sound AT ALL, not just some applications.

I'm just trying to help; no need for the attitude.

The type of computer is something like Dell Inspiron 1100, or HP Pavillion 6G. You say you downloaded the latest drivers, but you need to know what type of computer you have to download the drivers, so I wonder if you actually did get the drivers? That could certainly be your problem.

And oftentimes the most annoying and hard-to-fix problems are caused by simple but confusing causes. The example I gave you wasn't that the speakers were muted, it was that the computer was disabling the speakers after I unplugged them and plugged them back in, but gave no notification that that had happened. How do you know it's not that simple?

But since you seem resistant to the free help I've offered, I suggest you take it into Best Buy and pay the hundred or so bucks per hour to have somebody more receptive to suggestions google the problem for you. Not sure what else you want us to do. Good luck.

Well, first, I am sorry, if my reply sounder bad. The intentions were completely different. Sorry!(that's because I don't use emoticons, isn't it XD)

Now, on the topic, since I'm using Windows 7 , it's not hard to use the device manager to install a driver. ALSO keep in mind that the OS tries to install drivers for every connected hardware..

Oh, and now I saw something really strange, that I didn't notice before - if I log off or restart the computer, it says "SoundMax didn't load".

It seems many people have that problem, but I still didn't find any solution..
