Default Experienced with Java, need guidance learning new platforms.

Started off realizing requests for Minecraft mods, which then sparked my interest to learn how to program, distribute, and manage Android applications. I am far from an expert on either platform, but I thought it was time to venture into desktop applications, but only knowing Minecraft and Android APIs, I don't even know what to start looking for tutorial wise.

Any good tutorials to recommend for experienced Java developers like myself, but who have no experience with the desktop platform?
