I'm using the 5th edition of this book right now: Sam's Teach Yourself Java in 21 Days

There's also the shorter version: Sam's Teach Yourself Java in 24 Hours

And I've glanced at this book at the bookstore. It's both entertaining and educational if you like that sort of thing: Head First Java

However, Head First Java only covers up to Java 5.0!

Big Java by Cay Horstmann is pretty good for beginners, though it only covers up to 5.0 in the 2nd edition, which is what i am using.

i'm actually reading "Java for dummies", it's a little bit old but I like how it avoids the you-sure-already-know-that
p.s. I hope that reading java for dummies doesn't make me a sum xD
