Some basic questions on learning Java and the best approach.
Hello.
I'm sure this will sound the same as all the other threads requesting the same information but I am kind of looking for more specific.
I'm interested in Android development BUT with researching what goes into it, I've become more and more interested in Java. I am coming from a web development background knowing a little bit of PHP and understanding the basics of OOP.
My question is simple: If you had to start all over again and learn this from the ground up, where would you start? I see online training from /*removed*/.com and other sites. I also see more a more structured Java training at /*removed*/.com. Are these the best ways to go? Also, from Google searches, I see many blogs and private sites offering lessons and tips. Are there any you recommend.
I know there are weekend training classes, but I don't think I could absorb all the info that quickly. My best way to learn is a course-based environment.
While I am interested in Android development I feel that just focusing on that would be very limiting. I didn't realize all the places Java is used as the only experience I have had is seeing the Java applet run in my browser.
Thank you for all your help in advance.

Your first stop should be the Java tutorials: The Java™ Tutorials
Work through them slowly and create sample programs as you go so you understand the code. How to Ask Questions the Smart Way
