Re: Recommend a book
I have just finished reading Deitels How to Program Java Ninth edition.
I thought it was a good book to start with.
Its a long read though, about 1500 pages.
Another good one you might want to try is Ivor Hortons Beginning Java.

Re: Recommend a book
@Darryl Thanks.
@Glorgindel Thanks for the suggestions! Do you feel Deitels was easy to understand? Are things well explained? Ivor Hortons Beginning java is a bit old for my likings.
Any more suggested books?

Re: Recommend a book
Ivor Horton has released a 7th edition which is copyrighted to 2011. I have included a link to it from amazon.
Amazon.com: Ivor Horton's Beginning Java (Wrox Programmer to Programmer) (9780470404140): Ivor Horton: Books
How found Deitel was easy to follow. But it took a long time to read.

@Glorfindel Thanks for that. I did search for an updated version, believe me. I ended up here lol. I may have to get them both. The preview looks pretty good.
